Don’t Stop Believing…

Gina Fitzsimmons

In November 2016, I had a constant ache in my right breast that shortly went away but something told me to pay attention to that area in my breast. I found a small lump in December and felt it was growing so I went in for a physical with my primary doctor in January. My doctor didn’t feel anything, but I insisted it was there, so she sent me in for a mammogram and a ultrasound. Within the week they found a tumor in my right breast and I was sent to a surgeon. On February 10th, 2017 I was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer. The part that was most frightening was the triple negative breast cancer diagnosis which was a very aggressive and hard to treat cancer. A cancer that I had just lost a dear friend Sarah Amento just a year and a half earlier. I’m glad Sarah had taught me to be my own advocate and to act fast! I also sought out a second opinion from Dr. Robert Nagourney an amazing Oncology specialist in Individualized Cancer Treatment. I had a Mastectomy of my right breast on March 9th and the removal of four lymph nodes. The lymph nodes were clear, but the triple negative diagnosis made Chemotherapy necessary. I went through 4 rounds in 3 months of a very aggressive Chemo. With the amazing support of my husband, son, family, friends and my strong faith in the Lord… I am and remain being a Survivor #Godsgotthis #Wegotthis #Gstrong
